Hello!
Some of you have been wondering why I have been away from the studio last few weeks and all of a sudden production has gone into full swing?
Well, I’m only just now recovering from a nasty dose of winter illness. Two virus’s at the same time basically sapped all my strength and motivation and to be blunt I was that ill that I really didn’t want to do anything but sleep for three weeks. When you are feeling so low and can’t take time off work it’s a hard slog to keep going. The good news is that I have now been able to take a week off work and some much needed R’nR has helped a lot.
So what’s been happening in the studio?
As you will have seen from my last post work has concentrated on the FURY diorama and it is really coming together now! I still have all of those detailed final touches to do to bring it all together but thus far the feedback has been great!
I have also been working on a little side project, the new Airfix 1/48 P-51D Mustang. This is a kit I picked up at the UK nationals last November and I thought I’d give it a go.
I’ll be building this kit as a review to be posted at a later date and so it will be an entirely Out Of the Box (OOB) build. Nothing fancy to see here-Move along!
Here is the real machine that I will be recreating from Airfix’s latest offering:
This is how she looks so far-The office is all done, fuselage sewn up and the paint has gone down well. Just waiting for the gloss seal to cure and I’ll have markings on her quicker than you can say: “Hey! Is that a new Airbrush?”
New Airbrush? What was that?
Yes! You heard it right folks! I gotta new AIRBRUSH!
This is the Harder & Steenbeck Infinity CR+ with a 0.2mm fine line set up. Not only does it look good, but it paints beautifully as well. This new acquisition to the studio will be of great importance to the betterment of future build projects!
I have also been fortunate enough to acquire some lovely new kits this month, the first being AFV Club’s excellent F-5F Tiger in VFC-111 markings! Oh I am so going to enjoy painting this one!
I’m going all out for the Blue camouflage scheme! Like Marvel’s Stan Lee would say:
“Hold on to ya hat’s folk’s-This one’s a DOOZY!”
I also found this new kit from AK Interactive after seeing reviewed on Flory Models, it is a 1/48 Bf 109 E1/E3 in Spanish markings. What AK Interactive have done here is take the excellent Eduard kit and put in their own box with a small fret of photo-etch parts, comprehensive decal sheet and guide book. I really like the look of 109’s in this scheme so I went ahead and snapped this one up when I saw it for a great price!
Speaking of Eduard 109’s I also landed this beauty:
This 1.32 scale Eduard ProfiPACK Bf 109 E4 is simply superb! The kit parts are incredibly well detailed and included in the box is a full colour photo etch sheet of detail parts for the cockpit, a canopy masking set and six different decal options. I’m choosing this one:
A big thanks to Dave Coley of Dave Coleys Emporium for providing such great kits at a great price with great service! He’s a really good bloke so give his store a visit:
So many kits to build-So little time! I’ll be enjoying these and others no doubt as the year continues. Two projects coming to an end soon and two more long term builds to do a little work on in-between my commission work. It looks like it’s going to be a great year for making models!
I hope you have enjoyed my musings, stay tuned for more modelling madness! In the meantime, check out my Instagram account. It’s updated straight from the bench when I am in the studio and is fun to watch. You get to see a lot more of my faithful companion Harry too!

As always, thanks for visiting and for following my work.
Take care and Happy Modelling!
Darren.
Nice line up there.
I built the Eduard 109 in Von Werra’s markings last year. It ended up being my all time favorite aircraft build to date. Really nice kit.
