2019 Review-My model making year!

Hello and Happy New Year!

As is now the tradition, I write a review of my model building year and showcase my work, list the highs and learn from the lows of the 12 past months.

It has certainly been an eventful year for me and my hobby! I have joined the IPMS , became a member of a wonderful IPMS club and have attended shows as an exhibiter for the first time!

My social media profile has grown albeit slowly this year and I have more commission builds in the works than ever before!

I have made new friends, overcome great difficulties and have gained such rewarding experiences from my continued investment in this hobby.

Before I continue, I need to say thanks to the best people that I know, my family and friends. Without you, I would not be where I am right now. You have seen me through great hardship in 2019, but you have stuck with me, shown your support and lived through the bad days at my side, shoulder to shoulder. THANK YOU!

To my clients who are ever patient with deadlines and the constraints of  my day job, thank you for the work, the opportunity to be ever more creative and for the rewards you give me. I appreciate it more than you know. THANK YOU!

And yes, your in progress builds are soon to be completed and on their way….

I promise!

So there was a lot to be thankful for as you can see, as for the downside, 2019 did not see me in the best of health and it has been a burden. For the most, part I am better now than I was this time last year! Thank goodness! To all who helped me along my journey, THANK YOU!

And to you, valued reader of my blog. THANK YOU! For following my modelling madness and for just stopping by. It’s appreciated.

So what did I do in 2019?

February: 1/48 Hasegawa F/A-18C Hornet -WAR PARTY.

This Hasegawa Hornet was built as a VFA-87 CAG bird with Two Bobs Decals. It was a very enjoyable build of a fighter that had been on my to do list for some time.

April: WAR PARTY-The diorama

With my 1/48 F/A-18C completed, it was time to build it’s own diorama.

Launching off the USS Enterprise during Operation Iraqi Freedom- This diorama was finished in a custom display case and now is proudly on show in my studio.

May: I was blessed to be invited to visit the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Squadron at RAF Coningsby by aviation photographer and author Jonny Cracknell.        I have yet to write this article, but I just had to mention it as it really was one of the outstanding highlights of my year! A huge thank you again to both Jonny and Diane for an amazing day!

June: This one was just a delight! the 1/48 Eduard Spitfire Mk.IX in the D-Day markings of Johnny Johnson, complete with beer barrels slung under the wings! This was built to make the D-day Anniversary and to highlight one of the more amusing missions of the war. The finished model was given its own simple but poignant setting on a wooden plinth inside a display case.

FLYING LEGENDS 2019! The UK’s greatest warbird airshow! This year I had a Gold pass, and a full weekend of fantastic warbird flying!

1/32 Hasegawa Bf 109 K4 REDUX:

Here is my popular 1/32 Bf 109 K4 displayed as I had always intended…..

August: This saw the completion of a labour of love-my 1/32 Hobbyboss Spitfire Mk.Vb in the markings for Sqn.Ldr John Lynch who scored the 1000th aerial combat victory over Malta.

September: Here we had a very productive month! A Tiger and a Tomcat!

Tamiya’s 1/35 Tiger I in winter scheme with MiniArt figures and also from Tamiya, their stunningly excellent kit of the F-14A Tomcat!

1/48 F-14A Tomcat.

October: This for me, was my build highlight of the year, built in honour of my great friend Frank Daniels, Tamiya’s 1/32 P-51D “Ferocious Frankie”

November: Both my Tomcat and Mustang made an appearance at Scale Model World 2019 as part of the IPMS Lancs club display. It was a fantastic weekend with a great group! The feedback I got for my work was was amazing! To everyone there-Thank you!

December: Afrika Korps diorama. This wonderful Tamiya 1/35 Panzerkampwagen III with Masterbox figures saw the year out in a simple, yet expressive setting.
