I wanted to pay tribute to Sir Roger Moore who passed away on the 23rd of May this year. He was one of my favourite actors and always found a way to make me smile. The trademark raised eyebrow and deep, smooth voice were his calling card.
I grew up watching his movies with my family and in turn my son watched and enjoyed his films with me. His favourite Roger Moore film being “The Man with the Golden Gun” and mine being “The Spy Who Loved Me” He was a great leading man who for me was a great Bond. He never needed that Walther PPK, he could just charm the enemy to surrender! He was a great example to all Englishmen, a true gentleman. He was cool too, this man had charm and style in abundance, ladies everywhere loved him! No matter the location or situation Sir Roger did everything with effortless style.
Sir Roger was well known for being a charming, kind man who always had a twinkle in his eye and a cheeky joke to tell. He was kind enough to sign one his books for me on my birthday. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and all who enjoyed his work.
Today here is England they are showing some of his films as a tribute to him and me and my family will enjoy them together and reflect on happy memories of the wonderful man.
I will always remember that opening from “The Spy Who Loved Me” Bond, gets out of bed and has to get to work…..The beautiful lady left in bed says “James, I need you!”
Bond replies: ” So does England!” The rest was history, Bond skied off that mountain, his Union Flag parachute opened up and Carly Simon’s soundtrack belted out “Baby, you’re the best!”
This is how I will remember him, a dashing Englishman who showed us that being a gentleman was a true virtue.
Goodbye Sir Roger, we will miss you.
