Hello!
I have returned from Scale Model World 2017 with lots more inspiration and a lighter wallet!
SMW is the UK’s IPMS national show and national competition. It is held at the International Centre in Telford, Shropshire each year and it just seems to get busier and busier!
The Show was fantastic! Lots of Club stands displaying some very impressive works and some great traders who helped many of us empty our wallets in the pursuit of plastic perfection!
I also made a donation to Models For Heroes and received a rather fetching wristband to add to my growing collection of bands.
Model For Heroes is a superb charity that helps veterans who are suffering from PTSD by providing model building sessions to allow veterans to relax, learn a new hobby that helps them think about something else in an environment with fellow veterans and modellers. If you would to help, donate at the show or check out their website: Models For Heroes
You can donate old kits or buy a Mug, Badge or Wristband-I’ve got mine! Have you got yours?
Once armed with new wristband I eventually got through the queue’s and entered the show. I was very impressed with all the exhibitors and special mention should go to the staff from Airfix and Revell who were more than happy to speak to me and answer any questions I had about the new kits coming into production.
I was lucky enough to pick up Airfix’s new tool 1/48 P-51D Mustang and I am going to do a full review of the kit later. I’m looking forward to that!
My haul also included Eduard’s excellent 1/48 Weekend Spitfire Mk.VIII and a bargain 1/32 Hasegawa Fw-190 A8 which included a whole load of Eduard P/E in the box! Awesome!
The Haul…..
As always, I was in the company of my good friend Eric H. Who is a Armour Modeller and M113 expert. Like me, he is a keen scale modeller and enjoys the atmosphere of the show. We toured all the traders, club stands and the highlight for me, the competition tables. I am always in awe of the incredible models on display and it such a pleasure to see them.
As per…..The compulsory brew time allowed us time to reflect throughout the day…..
Now it’s your turn to sit back and enjoy the show:
After a great show, it was time to head home, have a great meal and a few beers too. Thanks to Eric for his company and lots of laughs, and to the great people I met this year at the show. See you on the next one!
Happy Modelling!
Darren.
It was a really good show I thought. Only my second year.
Great pictures. I particularly like the pink panther. I’ve only a handful on my phone. Must remember to take my camera next year! To be honest I was too busy going round and around marvelling at the results of some of the modellers to take pics. Then there is trying to remember which stall that kit was that I really wanted to buy 🙂

Thanks! It was a good show this year and I have come home with lots of inspiration. I have been to Telford more times than I can remember now, I have an idea to post photo’s from previous years sometime into the future as and when I can get around to it.
