May the 4th be with you!
Regular readers will already know that I am a huge Star Wars fan and every now and again I like to take my model making to a galaxy far, far away……
When I had the chance to acquire two 1/10 scale clone commander figures I couldn’t resist! I had my very own Commander Cody and Captain Rex. If you have not seen the Clone wars series, here is a very brief synopsis:
The characters of Commander Cody and captain Rex come out of the Star Wars prequel trilogy of films which show us the origins of Anakin Skywalker who eventually becomes Darth Vader.

Before the Clone Wars, The Jedi Knights were guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy, however a large trade federation declared war on the Republic and there were not enough Jedi to quell disorder. Hence the creation of a galactic army of the Republic. Entire legions of clone soldiers were created on the the planet of Camino. Two of the most prominent and feared clone army units were the 501st Legion which was commanded by General Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker with his loyal Clone Commander Captain Rex at his side.

The 501st’s distinctive blue armour markings were known throughout the Republic and acknowledged as one of the toughest legions to face in battle under the command of Anakin Skywalker who trained his troops harder than another Jedi General.

Most of Captain Rex’s story is told through the animated TV seres of the Clone Wars and takes place between the prequel films Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. These animated stories were great family viewing that I enjoyed watching with my son and we still watch Star Wars together today. Captain Rex does make a welcome appearance in the live action series Ahsoka and it is hoped that he will live on in future live action series.
Commander Cody was the highest ranking Clone trooper in the Republic Army and his unit, the 212th Attack Battalion was commanded by General Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi. We first encounter Commander Cody in the live action prequel, Revenge of the Sith when Obi Wan Kenobi instructs Cody to launch an attack against the trade federation’s General Grievous prior to the battle of Utapau.

I have always admired Cody’s battle scared bright orange 212th Attack battalion armour and custom equipment, he is definitely my favourite Clone trooper character and by coincidence, Captain Rex is my son’s favourite Clone trooper character so I decided to make a vignette using both figures displayed on one base.
The 1/10 scale figures were 3d printed models which only required basic assembly. The fun would come with the panting and weathering. All the armour markings were painted on by hand as they’re no decals with this kit. All paints used were from Tamiya acrylics.
Using stills from the animated series and live action film, I went for a look that I hope would not look out of place on the big screen. The two figures are posed on a vignette base on a stage world where Cody and Rex are paying their last respects to their fallen brothers .
BROTHERS IN ARMS

I hope you enjoyed this one! I want to dedicate this build to my son Tom, my star wars buddy who makes me so proud to his father.
Happy Modelling!
