Two weeks ago I was lucky enough to be invited to display some of my models at the IPMS Scale Model World 2019 show at the International Centre in Telford, England. It was an absolute blast to spend the whole weekend at the show, one of the biggest scale modelling exhibitions in the world.
Attending as a member of my club, IPMS Lancashire was a real privilege! I was able to show my models off to visitors and viewers around the world! The show is based in three enormous halls which feature many club stands, special interest groups and traders.
It’s a great weekend-surrounded by all things to do with scale modelling and some truly remarkable models! Then there are the trade stands too-better leave your wallet at home! One could easily spend a months salary here with all the great stuff on sale!
The best part for me is the people. I had an incredible time meeting up with old friends and making new ones. I received a lot of very positive feedback about my models and to receive praise from my peers was a great honour.
In this post, I’ll show off the models that caught my eye, the superb competition models and some of the memories that made it for me the best model show ever!
Here is our club table:
You can see my 1/48 Tamiya F-14A Tomcat on display.
And my 1/32 Tamiya P-51D Mustang.
Here are some views of the halls-as you can see, very big and very busy!
The IPMS Lancashire crew at the club table.
Here’s Darren Elliot with the clubs BIG GUN! His 1/35 scale DORA caused quite a stir in the hall!
Here was one of the big announcements at Telford-The new Airfix 1/72 New tool Vulcan Bomber!
There were some superb 1/24 Hellcat models on the Airfix stand too:
It was also fantastic to catch up with my mate Paul Thompson. We had time for a good catchup and it was nice for Paul to see my models in his fantastic display cases.
Competition Time!
Here the models I enjoyed most from the competition area, all were to my mind fantastic! Click on the pictures to enlarge them.
After a long day of exploring the three halls, meeting and greeting fellow modellers and the obligatory bargain hunting, it was time to retire to my hotel for the evening. The guys in my club are great people and they generously invited me, the new guy to join them for dinner that evening.
We had a great time on the Saturday evening, great food, great company and a “few” beers made it a great night!
Sunday morning began with an awesome breakfast and onto day 2 of the show! It was a quieter day, one where I spend more times catching up with people and admiring the fantastic work on the club stands. Here is a selection of models that I enjoyed from the show club and trade stands. Click on the photos to enlarge them.
What a weekend! It was fantastic to meet so many people who enjoyed my work! That was awesome! Thanks to everyone at IPMS UK for an incredible show and to all at IPMS Lancashire who really made me feel welcome and part of the team!
So did I find any bargains? YEAH! I snaffled up these two kits for a very nice price indeed! How much you ask? That is between me and my vendor!
I hope you have enjoyed sharing my experience at Scale Model World 2019, thanks for visiting and Happy Modelling!
Darren.
