Hello again!
At this time of year we tend to spend a little more time at the bench during the cold winter weather and one thing I enjoy doing is building a subject that operated in a warmer climate. To this end I discovered Tamiya’s 1/35 Panzerkampwagen III in desert guise with the excellent Masterbox Figures, Afirka Korps tank crew with Fieldmarshall Rommel.
To my mind, this kit gives the modeller a diorama right out of the box and that is exactly what I set out to do! This was a clean and simple build that was simply placed in a desert setting to evoke memories of the North Africa campaign.
This particular kit I think was based on this photograph taken of Rommel during the Africa campaign, (see below) the figures are very well sculpted and capture the look of a German tank crew of that era.
Both tank and figures were painted in Tamiya and Mig Ammo acrylic paints and weathered with Tamiya weathering sets and Mig Ammo washes. The display base was home-made using aftermarket palm trees, a home-made plinth and AK Interactive desert terrain paste.
This build was great fun to work on and I was well pleased with the result. Using just a vehicle and figures I can set a scene with jus a few materials and have a simple diorama that I will enjoy for years to come.
The finished work in its display case…..
Well, that’s another one done! Thanks for visiting!
Please allow me to wish you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Merry Christmas! And Happy Modelling!
Darren.
